The lead drummer of the legendary Apala musician Ayinla Omowura, Alhaji Rahman Adewole Oniluola is dead.
He died on Tuesday at around 22:00 at the age of 97 in his hometown, Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun.
According to Islamic orders, his remains are buried today (Wednesday) in his Keesi residence in Abeokuta.
The news of his passage was announced by one of his children, Kamilu Adewole.
The non-farmer died barely one month after celebrating his 97th birthday, which was seen by the Alake and the ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo.
The Baamofin of Egbaland, chief Sunny Olurotimi Oduntan, responded to the news of Adewole’s death, describing the late Adewole as ‘one of the best talking drummers’ in the history of Egba.
He said: ‘Last night we lost one of the best drummers in Egba’s history, Alhaji Adewole Alao Onilu Ola.
‘He was the lead drummer of Ayinla Omowura Apala Group until the tragic death of Alhaji Ayinla Omowura in 1980.
“We celebrated Baba Adewole’s 97th birthday on 28 November 2020 and he passed away on 30 December. We thank God for his life!
