A single mother and her children held a peaceful rally in front of the governor’s office of Cross River State on Monday, January 4, over the alleged non-payment of 2 years salary.

The mother of two, identified as Magistrate Safiya Iyeh Ashipu of the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Odukpani, claimed she had not been paid for two years and pleaded in a peaceful protest at the Cross River State Government to pay her salary.
The magistrate and her two sons carried posters with different inscriptions that read,
‘Our exclusive wife, I’m a single mother of two children. I have not been paid for two years, please pay me my two year salary.
‘Your Honor, my Governor, you have the power to help change our lives for the better. Pay our mother and Your Honor, my governor, please help me complete my treatment and pay my mother two years’ salaries. ‘
It has been established that Ashipu is one of the 29 magistrates who have not paid Governor Ben Ayade for more than two years.
