Nigerian music superstars and award-winning artists Ayodeji Balogun aka Wizkid and Damini ‘Burna Boy’ Ogulu made it to the UK magazine GQ’s 2020 best album list.
Burna’s Twice As Tall ‘and’ Made In Lagos’ by Wizkid, are the only Nigerian albums in GQ Magazine’s best 24 albums of 2020.
According to the prestigious lifestyle magazine, the albums made the year more tolerable.
While “Twice as Tall” took 16th place, “Made in Lagos” was followed in 17th place.
GQ describes the latest African Giants album as one that absolutely lives up to its name, stating that “Burna Boy’s global sound has somehow become even more universally enjoyable, skillfully blending Afrobeat and dancehall rhythms, R&B sensibility, hip-hop flows and the passion of reggae in one unique sound. “
As for Wizkid’s “Made in Lagos”, it was described as his best album, stating that he, “Combines his global vision with a focus on Yoruba, Afro-Latin and Afrobeat percussion which, as the name states’ Made in Lagos’, makes the record feel like a real homecoming. “
While Burna Boy’s album was nominated for the 2021 Grammy Award, her second consecutive nomination, one of Wizkid’s songs from “Made in Lagos”, “Essence”, in which she played Nigerian singer Tems, went to former US President, Barack Obama’s Favorite Music List for 2020.
