A man identified as Matthew Stallings has been arrested after he allegedly woke his sleeping wife before stabbing her more than 15 times with a knife and throwing her from the balcony on the second floor.
The 20-year-old Stallings, from New Hanover County, North Carolina, was beaten with several charges after he allegedly tried to kill his wife, WWAY-TV reported on Thursday, January 8th.
According to the sheriff of New Hanover County, Stallings broke into an apartment at the New Providence Park Apartment Homes around 8pm on Wednesday and allegedly assaulted a woman.
The victim, the estranged wife of Stalling, was stabbed more than 15 times before being thrown from a balcony on the second floor.
The weapon used by Stalling’s wife is said to be a folding knife.
Police said Stalling’s wife remains in a stable condition despite being treated for life-threatening injuries at New Hanover Regional Medical Center after the attack, Port City Daily reported.
The sheriff’s office also described the stabbing as a domestic incident.
After the incident, detectives were able to locate and arrest Stallings in Duplin County.
Stables were charged with first-degree murder, assault of a woman, communication of threats, first-degree burglary and assault with a deadly weapon.
He was booked into New Hanover County’s detention facility under no circumstances.
Stalls will appear in court on Thursday afternoon.
