The actress Folake Aremu, Orisabunmi is dead


The 60-year-old Yoruba actress Folake Aremu, popularly known as Orisabunmi, has died.

Her death comes four months after the death of ex-husband Jimoh Aliu, better known as Aworo.


President of the Association of Theater Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) Bolaji Amusan, or Mr. Latin, confirmed she passed away Tuesday night.

‘It is so sad that we have a Priceless Jewel, a very rare gem in the Nigerian film industry, Chief Mrs. Folakemi Aremu, or Orisabunmi, lost to the cold hands of death last night.

According to the actor, Orisabunmi died at 23:00 after a short illness at 23:00.

“Although good people die every day, not everyone confirms to us the goodness of mankind as Orisabunmi did.

‘She passed away and left a legacy of positive experiences for all who took the time to get to know her.

‘If Oratory is the masterful art, the world will surely miss Orisabunmi for her talent. She was an orator who would sing eloquently with her resounding sound.

‘Iya Oosa, we will surely miss you.

“Funeral arrangements will be announced soon,” he said. Latin’s statement added.

Another senior TAMPAN member Tunde Ola-Yusuff also announced the death in a Facebook message.

“She left without saying goodbye. The sudden death of Mrs. Folake Aremu (ORISABUNMI) has been announced.


‘Really a shock to everyone. Iya Oosa, may God rest your soul among the righteous, ”Ola Yusuff wrote.

Orisabunmi was born on October 10, 1960 in Kwara State and became popular for her role in the TV series from the 80’s. Arelu with her husband and others like Ojo Arowosafe, popularly known as Fadeyi Oloro, in the lead roles.

Jimoh and Folake Aliu had a rocky marriage and were divorced two decades before Aworo passed away in September 2020.

Although they were no longer a woman, they continued to work together as professionals and friends.

She attended his 85th birthday in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo, on December 19, 2019.

In an interview with PUNCH shortly after Aworo’s death, Orisabunmi said: He was a good man; he was a father to me, not a man. “He was my mentor. After God, he was responsible for my progress.

“I pray the Lord to accept him. May his good works never be wasted! ”
