The competition for the five-year term of office of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, was celebrated by staff of the institution with several activities, which indicated that they were relieved with his departure.
It was learned that the workers started the day’s activities with a harvest festival before heading to the VC’s office in the Tekena Tamuno building, where they swept the entire place.
It was also learned that the joyful workers went to the main gate where they swept the entire area down to the main road.
According to the OYOINSIGHT report, the workers burned any brooms they brought with them on the way to the main street and cleaned their hands before returning to the facility.
The joyful workers fried bean cakes to mark the auspicious moment after leaving the main street.
Olayinka’s five-year existence as vice-chancellor of the institution has reportedly been fraught with fights with the union over the management of the institution’s affairs.
